Ankle fracture dislocation Management in ED

Indication for immediate reduction:

  • Severe pain not responding to strong analgesic
  • Neurovascular compromise
  • Severe displacement
  • Skin tenting
  • Dislocation for more than 24 hours
  • Open fracture dislocation

Checks after successful reduction:

  • Check neurovascular status
  • Obtain check x-ray to look for a satisfactory reduction
  • Immobilize in a P.O.P slab
  • Refer the patient to the orthopedics team immediately.
