Emergency Management of A Surgical Patient

  • Obtain Large caliber IV Venous access and sent blood for FBC, U/E, LFT, Amylase, Lactate, CrossMatch
  • Titrate IV analgesia with an antiemetic
  • Start an IV 1l of 0.9% Saline
  • Insert a nasogastric tube and declare the patient nil by mouth (NBM)
  • IV broad-spectrum antibiotics
  • Insert a urinary catheter
  • Move the patient to an appropriate area of the department and involve an ED senior in their management
  • Urgent Referal to Surgical Team
